Expert AuthorReverse osmosis containers are storage containers that collect purified water at the end of the reverse osmosis process.

Reverse osmosis is a highly recommended method of Water Purification. Treating your water with reverse osmosis is said to:

* remove contaminants such as lead, nitrates, and additives such as fluoride.

* improve taste and appearance.

Reverse osmosis will not remove chemicals such as solvents or pesticides. It should not be relief upon to remove microorganisms either, as these can pass through tiny holes in the membrane.

Reverse Osmosis Process

Reverse osmosis, developed in the 1950’s under U.S. government funding, is dependent entirely on the unit’s semi-permeable membrane. This membrane, composed of cellulose acetate or thin film composite material, is placed between two screens. It is then wrapped around a tube in a manner similar to the way paper towels are wrapped on a tube.

When the unit is turned on, normal water pressure in your house sends water through the reverse osmosis membrane. The membrane holds back most dissolved
Substances, allowing only purified water to continue through into your storage containers. Impure water flows down the drain as waste water.

Storage Containers

Reverse osmosis containers, used to store the purified water, come in various sizes, dependent on the size of your system.

* Whole house systems use large storage tanks as reverse osmosis containers. Water flows as needed into a re-pressurization system, and out to the user.

* Smaller reverse osmosis units can be used with any container that is well-washed, rinsed in hot water, and clean. Remember that you want your water to remain as pure as when it left the reverse osmosis membrane, so your container must be very clean.

Since you control the size of the outlet reservoir, or storage tank, you can run your reverse osmosis system at your convenience. A 5-gallon plastic water bottle can be filled and set into a crock with dispensing faucet for easy access to healthy Drinking Water.
