Bottled drinking water is popular, but is it for you?

Reasons to Buy Bottled Drinking Water

Consider these reasons for buying bottled drinking water.

1. Bottled drinking water can be vital in emergencies. In floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and other natural disasters, water supply could be cut. When tap water becomes unavailable, bottled drinking water in the cupboard can save lives. Some keep a supply of water earmarked for emergencies. If stranded in a car or along a hiking trail, unable to get to safety and waiting for rescuers, you might stay alive with bottled drinking water.

2. Bottled drinking water may taste better. Tap water may taste bad. Chlorine and disinfectants are added to kill bacteria and other microorganisms, but the taste they add to water can be repulsive to some. Some tap water contains sediment that clouds the water and contributes to poor taste. Bottled drinking water may taste much better and may, in fact, have certain minerals added to improve flavor.

3. Bottled drinking water may smell better. Chemicals and disinfectants that affect tap water’s taste may affect odor also. Bottled drinking water usually has little or no odor.

4. Bottled drinking water may be purer. Many are convinced that bottled drinking water is absolutely pure. This is not true. Bottled drinking water may or may not be more pure than tap water. Exercise caution and learn the source and contents of bottled drinking water.

5. Bottled drinking water is convenient. You can carry it easily, and not worry about losing your container. Empty containers can be tossed in trash collectors.

6. Bottled drinking water is an alternative to purchasing sodas. It is also better for your health than sodas. Children, especially, would do well to choose bottled drinking water over sugary beverages.
